Gill: Plans In The Pipeline

United chief executive David Gill has revealed that plans are in the pipeline to arrange more Legends games in the future.

The Reds' veterans tackled their Real Madrid counterparts at the weekend as a crowd in excess of 60,000 raised over £800,000 for the Manchester United Foundation. It was an enjoyable occasion for all involved and Gill feels another world-famous club could provide the opposition in a two-legged charity affair similar to the one organised against the Spanish side.

"I think we will look to do it every couple of years probably," Gill informed ManUtd.com. "That's our plan. We don't want to do it every year but we can do something every two years.

"An away game with another big European giant - play them away and then come back to Old Trafford in 2015. It's something we want to do and the most important thing is it raises a fantastic amount of money to be put to worthwhile causes by the Foundation to further their aims."

There was plenty of interest generated in the family-themed occasion with top chart acts JLS, Tinchy Stryder and Amelia Lily ensuring a spectacular afternoon of entertainment at the Theatre of Dreams.

"It was fantastic," he said of Sunday's Red Heart United day. "It was a beautiful event and a beautiful occasion. It raised a lot of money for a great cause so we're delighted.

"The weather was fantastic for Manchester too and you saw the enthusiasm of the crowd and the players really enjoyed it - people like Ruud [van Nistelrooy] coming back and scoring a great goal at the Stretford End. It was a great event with the artists coming in but a lot of work has gone on from the Foundation staff and club staff. These events don't just happen - a lot of great work was put in behind the scenes to make it the day it was."

Van Nistelrooy's goal was the highlight of the match itself from a United perspective as the Reds were unlucky to lose 2-1 to Real, with the Spaniards claiming a 5-3 aggregate triumph.

"In the first half, Edwin [van der Sar] kept us in the game clearly, as he's done over the years, but when Ruud swapped sides and played for us, he added some pace in attack," added Gill. "We could've scored when Dwight [Yorke] hit the bar and it was a decent game but the occasion and what it means was the most important thing."

The chief executive departs his role at the end of the month but is retaining a place on the board and will still see United in action regularly.

"Maybe I'll be more relaxed now," he replied, when asked if he can celebrate goals with even more gusto. "We'll see! I'm leaving at the end of June so that's another four weeks and it's been a great, great ride and I've enjoyed it. I'll still be a director so I'm coming to the games but it's now David Moyes and Ed Woodward doing the player stuff.

"I can read the papers and think: 'Is that really happening?' You never know whether it is and it's often not the case, it's just in the papers! It's been brilliant and anyone who works for this club really cherishes it and enjoys it. That's been the case for me and I'm looking forward now."
