First thoughts: Once the Champions League is put to bed, there's a real chance to focus on domestic matters and enjoy a productive festive period.

Toughest test: Last term, arguably the Reds' worst performance was reserved for a bleak November defeat at Carrow Road, and making the arduous trek to Norfolk after a hectic Christmas schedule will again test United's mettle.

Subplot: David Moyes will cross paths with his former club, Everton, for the first time since his move to Old Trafford. His replacement, Roberto Martinez, has time to impart his own playing style on the Toffees before heading over to Manchester.
