Boss: Fans Are Key To Success

David Moyes has praised the “incredible” Manchester United fans who attended Sunday’s FA Community Shield victory over Wigan Athletic at Wembley.

Around 50,000 Reds supporters flocked to the national stadium to see the champions beat the Latics with competent ease, providing an admirable backdrop of noise from start to finish. And the boss, buoyed by the atmosphere, believes such a backing could prove pivotal this season.

“It was incredible. At the end, most people normally leave and the ground becomes half empty, but three quarters of the ground was full of Manchester United supporters,” he told MUTV.

“I think the supporters had the bit between their teeth. They know we have got a fight on this season, they know we have got a challenge and they are right up for it.

“And we are going to need them. We are going to need their vocal backing at Old Trafford, from the first home game, and hopefully we’re going to be ready to show them what we can do.”

Michael Carrick was similarly impressed by the fans in attendance. “We don’t take it for granted, the support we get both home and away, it is appreciated so much and it helps us, it gives us a boost when we need it and hopefully we made the journey worthwhile for everyone who made it.”
