Carrick Up For Award

Michael Carrick has been named on a five-man shortlist for the NorthWest Football Awards' Player of the Year for the Barclays Premier League.

The England midfielder won the Players' award at the club's end-of-season gala dinner at Old Trafford and enjoyed a fabulous campaign last term, finally earning the widespread acclaim his performances deserve.

Leighton Baines, Jamie Carragher, Pablo Zabaleta and Shaun Maloney are the rivals for the prize, which is currently held by Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel.

United's Young Player of the Year Ben Pearson has been nominated for the 'Rising Star' accolade, won in 2012 by Nick Powell.
