Rio: We Are Raring To Go

Following a rigorous pre-season training camp, Rio Ferdinand believes Manchester United are more than ready for the 2013/14 season and the Reds legend can’t wait to get started.

Throughout the Tour 2013 presented by Aon, new manager David Moyes held double training sessions on an almost daily basis and, as a result, the champions are in good shape ahead of Sunday’s FA Community Shield match against Wigan Athletic.

When speaking exclusively to ManUtd.com at a signing session for his new book, 'Rio: My decade as a Red', Ferdinand was clearly excited for the action to begin at Wembley.

“The team is feeling good, we have been training really hard and it has been a tough pre-season physically, but we have enjoyed it and we’ve had a really good time. Now, we are looking forward to getting into the games and the nitty gritty. It’s the first trophy of the season and we’d like to win it."

As Rio states, Sunday’s match offers an opportunity to win silverware and a chance for Moyes to claim the first trophy of his career, which Ferdinand believes would conclude an ideal introduction to life at United.

“It has been a good tour in terms of preparation and the manager has been able to get to know the players, which is a great thing," he added. "And now, we have got the Community Shield game and an opportunity to grab some silverware which would be great.”
