Rooney Reception 'Expected'
Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic says he expected Wayne Rooney to receive a good reception from the club's fans on Monday night.
Rooney is believed to be interested in a possible move to Chelsea, who have had a pair of bids turned down for the England forward.
But, when United played host to the London side on Monday, Rooney was cheered heartily by the home supporters and produced a whole-hearted display in the 0-0 draw.
And Vidic said: "The supporters have always supported the players, Wayne is no different.
"He has been supported throughout the years and I don't think there was a question he would have been supported against Chelsea.
"He has scored so many goals and won so many trophies, I expected him to receive a good reception."
The match itself was a disappointment, with clear-cut scoring chances thin on the ground.
However, asked whether it was a game in which United concentrated more on not losing than winning, Vidic said: "I don't think so.
"We had more possession around their box than they had round ours. Robin (van Persie) had a shot blocked and Danny Welbeck had a chance.
"It was a tactical game, which is why you could argue it was not great to watch. But it wasn't a bad game for us."
United now travel to Liverpool on Sunday and Vidic added: "It is always tough to go there and it is going to be no different this year.
"They have started well with two wins and they have some confidence but we are pleased with our form too and we will be ready.
"All the players enjoy playing in those games. They are the games you want to be on the pitch for."
