Boss: Fellaini Hitting Form
David Moyes admits he pitched Marouane Fellaini into action earlier than he would have liked but expects the Belgian will start to show his true colours.
Fellaini moved to United on deadline day but has suffered a wrist injury and was sent off during the 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad. Nonetheless, the 25-year-old impressed in the stalemate and looks to be hitting form ahead of Sunday's visit of Arsenal.
"I watched him playing and he looked a little bit behind," explained Moyes. "I had to put him in earlier than I'd have liked. I planned to put him in much slower to bring him on and give him a chance to settle in. But we put him in early because we needed it. I didn't think he was quite ready then but I actually thought he played well in Sociedad."
Arsenal's marquee signing Mesut Ozil was linked with United in some quarters before joining the Gunners, but the manager has stressed that he was looking at other positions for potential acquisitions.
"We weren't close to buying him," he explained. "Something was mooted a little bit before he joined Arsenal but we didn't need that position at the time. We had people like Shinji Kagawa and Wayne Rooney, who were similar. Adnan Januzaj can play that role in time when he's older. So it wasn't quite what we required at that time. We were looking at different positions. I didn't say there was an interest. It had been put to us and it was just something we didn't need at the time."
