Malaysian Project Expanded
In conjunction with official partners Mamee-Double Decker (M) Sdn. Bhd. and Telekom Malaysia, Manchester United has announced the expansion of its Soccer Schools projects in Malaysia. These projects will work with hundreds of young footballers across the country.
Mamee, Official Noodles Partner of Manchester United for Asia, Oceania and the Middle East, will kick off its Kejohanan Bolasepak Piala Mamee 1Malaysia on 12th November. The YR1M Foundation and Piala Mamee 1Malaysia Football Tournament will work with young footballers in the region, predominantly targeting 17-19 year-olds. The tournament will see 1,680 players compete across 80 teams, with the top 10 teams reaching the Grand Finals in Kuala Lumpar.
Organised by Yayasan Rakyat 1Malaysia, in partnership with Mamee and Manchester United, the tournament aims to foster national unity and promote an active lifestyle in young Malaysians through a passion for football. Alongside this tournament, Mamee will be running additional programmes to educate, motivate and inspire young people, in line with the values of the Manchester United Foundation. This will include workshops on teamwork and youth engagement projects.
On Wednesday 13th November, Telekom Malaysia, Official Integrated Telecommunications Partner for Manchester United in Malaysia, is launching the third season of its successful Mencari Ramli programme for 13-16 year-old budding footballers. Over a three to four month period, teenagers will compete in skills tests and five-a-side matches with the hope of reaching the project’s final in Kuala Lumpur.
Six lucky participants will then win a visit to the UK to train with members of the Manchester United first-team. Telekom Malaysia has this year added a new element with guest judge Andy Ansah, famous football choreographer, on hand to put the participants through their paces.
This project will also be turned into a TV programme, allowing Manchester United fans across the country the chance to follow the footballers as they strive to become the stars of tomorrow.
Manchester United’s Group Managing Director, Richard Arnold comments: "It’s fantastic to see our commercial partners working in conjunction with Manchester United Soccer Schools to encourage participation in football for young people. The Soccer Schools projects operate across the globe to promote a number of key social and physical topics such as healthy living, teamwork and social inclusion.
"Mamee and Telekom Malaysia are important partners to Manchester United and they allow us to bring the Club closer to its eight million followers in Malaysia. I look forward to following these tournaments and I hope the hundreds of young people involved have a memorable experience."
