Büttner Okay For Sunday
Alex Büttner has revealed that his substitution late on against Shakhtar Donetsk was due to cramp rather than any injury and he will be available for Sunday's clash with Aston Villa.
The Dutchman bombed up and down the left flank during the Champions League victory and contributed plenty in both defence and attack during an effective performance. With Patrice Evra missing out due to injury, it was an opportunity for the 24-year-old to impress David Moyes.
Büttner's last start came against Norwich City in the Capital One Cup back in October, although he came off the bench for the final 20 minutes of the 5-0 victory at Bayer Leverkusen. Hence, it was no surprise he was feeling the effects at Old Trafford and was withdrawn for Antonio Valencia with a couple of minutes left.
"I just got cramp in my calf because I haven't played many games," he explained to ManUtd.com. "It was my first start for more than a month so it was hard for me.
"In the last minutes, I could not run anymore because I had cramp and that is why I was substituted. I ran a lot and worked hard for the team but, for the last couple of minutes, I was tired.
"I am okay for the weekend. I want to play every game and I think it's good if a player wants to play in every game.
"It's the choice of the manager if he plays me or Patrice Evra and I have to wait for my chances. It's difficult because you gain rhythm by playing every week - you know when you have to go forward and when you have to stay back. If I play more, it's better for me and every player wants to play better.
"I think I did well in my first full game for months. I make sure I am always ready. Sometimes players get injuries so I always train hard to make sure I'm ready to play."
Büttner was also pleased to be part of a defence that kept a clean sheet against the Ukrainian champions.
"That's very important for the team," he added. "And it's important for the defence as well for confidence.
"I think we did well at the back and played well as a team. Of course, we can always play better but you saw everybody fighting for it. This was an important win. We fought as a team so I hope we can win the next game at Villa as well."
