Rooney Focused On Domestic Glory

Wayne Rooney says landing a 21st top flight title remains the priority for Manchester United this season.

The Red Devils have dominated English football throughout the Premier League era and have no intention of allowing their crown to slip.

Defending the trophy they secured for a 13th time under Sir Alex Ferguson last season will not be easy, with table-topping Arsenal having edged 9 points into the distance.

Rooney said in the Daily Star Sunday of United's challenge: "I've always said throughout my career that the most important trophy in any season is the Premier League.

"It's the domestic league and it decides who is the best team over the course of a season.

"That is the one that is vital we try and win."

The success of Rooney's strike partnership with Robin van Persie could go a long way towards seeing United push for major honours in 2013/14, and the England international is confident the pair can build on a return which has already brought 18 goals between them.

He added: "It feels like a good pairing.

"The main thing for forwards is to work together to score goals and create goals.

"It's great for the team if myself and Robin can create chances for each other and score goals that are helping us win matches.

"It is really enjoyable for us to play that way. "
