Rooney Thanks Colleagues

Wayne Rooney was pleased to pick up a point against Tottenham, and says his team-mates deserve credit for his recent run of good form.

The Reds forward scored a double as United twice came from behind to secure a 2-2 draw at White Hart Lane, and reckoned neither side deserved to lose the match in the capital.

"Obviously, I’m confident and playing well but that’s down to my team-mates," he told BT Sport. "[That includes] the likes of Antonio Valencia, who has been fantastic for the last couple of games, he’s a real threat. I’m just trying to do my job and help the team to be successful.

"We didn’t start the game too well. We gave away a sloppy goal and made it difficult for ourselves. Thankfully, we got back into the game before half time. We played some decent stuff, and started well in the second half. Obviously, they hit us with the goal, and it was a great strike from Sandro. We had to regroup and we got the goal quite early on, so 2-2 at the end was probably a fair result."

Rooney, whose goals took him up to fourth on the list of all-time Barclays Premier League scorers, believes that the Reds need to take maximum points from the upcoming games ahead of the Christmas period. Sunday's result saw United extend an unbeaten run to 12 fixtures, but the striker is determined to close the gap on leaders Arsenal.

"We’re on a good run at the minute," he added. "But we need to turn some of these draws into wins, I think that’s important for us. Today, it was a difficult game with two good teams, so a point is probably a good result. It’s in the other games that we have to turn one point into three, that can make a massive difference for us."
