Moyes Ponders Captain Options

Manchester United manager David Moyes admits the job of captain is up for grabs when Nemanja Vidic leaves in the summer.

The Serbian's exit has already sparked a great deal of discussion regarding his replacement as skipper but the manager has an open mind over the situation. Left-back Patrice Evra remains vice-captain but others will have an opportunity to stake their claim.

"Vida will remain as captain until the end of the season," stated Moyes. "When he isn't, it will be Patrice Evra who takes over. When it's not him, it will be Rio Ferdinand or Wayne Rooney or Darren Fletcher.

"We need to make sure the person who takes over knows what it means to the club, the responsibilities it carries and what is required of you. But I think we have a lot of leaders in the dressing room and they will all stake their claim.

"I would say it's up for grabs. We have had two or three different captains due to injuries. I do think what we want is to show leadership qualities, not just on the pitch but off it. I think there is a big standing to be the captain of Manchester United."
