Moyes: Welcome Back, Rene
David Moyes is looking forward to seeing Rene Meulensteen when the Dutchman brings Fulham to Old Trafford on Sunday.
Meulensteen was a member of United’s backroom team for 12 seasons and worked as Sir Alex Ferguson’s first-team coach for five years before departing in the summer - despite receiving an offer to continue his work at the Aon Training Complex.
The 49-year-old then took on a coaching role at Anzhi Makhachkala and was soon named manager following Guus Hiddink’s sacking. However, after just 16 days in the job, he also departed the mega-rich Russian club.
In November, Rene was then hired as Martin Jol’s head coach at Fulham before accepting the role of boss just before Christmas. Speaking ahead of Sunday’s match with the Cottagers, Moyes was full of kind words for his opposite number.
“Rene is coming back. He helped me when I first came here and got the job," the boss told reporters. "I had several conversations with him and he told me about how the club works, how it's run and the players.
“I would have liked him to stay but he chose to go on his own. He took over at Fulham and changed the staff around there. It happens at football clubs. I’m looking forward to seeing him on Sunday.”
