Scholes: Reds Will Come Good

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes is confident the Reds will soon recover from a disappointing recent spell and says the recent return of injured players will be crucial in helping the champions climb the table.

In an interview with MUTV and ManUtd.com while in the United States to announce the club’s Tour 2014, presented by Aon, Scholes spoke of his belief that a "crazy season of injuries" has hamstrung new manager David Moyes and that, once the boss has a full squad available, United will be firing once again.

"I don’t think the manager can legislate for the amount of injuries he has had to deal with. We’ve missed Rooney and van Persie for big chunks of the season - they are two of the best centre-forwards in the world and any team would miss them," said the former Reds midfielder.

"When we finally got them both back for the game against Stoke, suddenly we had four centre-halves not fit to play. It’s been a crazy season for injuries. Hopefully we’ll get a bit of luck with injuries and I’m sure if we get all our players fit we’ll get moving up the league."

During the interview, Scholes recalled a number of unhappy spells of form during his time as a Red and was resolute in his opinion that the players know what it takes to recover from a run such as this.

"We’ll always come back from bad patches like this. We have been on worse runs," he insisted. "I think there was a time that we went three years without winning the league, which was a disaster for a club of this size - this is nothing in comparison. Once the manager gets his own players in, gets his defenders fit and Rooney and van Persie flying again, I’m sure we’ll be okay."

Scholes was also effusive in his praise for one of his former team-mates, Darren Fletcher, who made his return from a long battle with illness during the festive period.

"It’s great to see him back after the horrendous problems he’s had," added Scholes. "It says everything about him, he’s a determined man. You can see that when he plays he’s got a lot of fight about him and over these last couple of years he’s had to show a lot of fight and determination to get back where he is."
