Boss Excited By Bayern Tie

Manchester United manager David Moyes is looking forward to the Champions League quarter-final ties against Bayern Munich.

Although he conceded that the draw is a tough one, the Reds boss is relishing being in the last eight of Europe's premier competition after the remarkable win against Olympiacos in midweek.

"I was thrilled that we were in that draw and we're in the quarter-finals of the Champions League," Moyes stated at Friday's press conference ahead of the weekend trip to West Ham.

"When we were 2-0 down to Olympiacos a week or so ago, I don't think a lot of people were putting us through to the quarter-final draw. So, in a lot of ways, it didn't matter who I drew.

"But I've got to say we've drawn out the favourites and obviously the holders of the cup competition as well, so it's a really tough draw for us but one that I'm looking forward to."

The manager was asked about his thoughts on having the home leg against Bayern first on 1 April.

"I think if you're old fashioned, you'd say you always want to be at home in the second leg," he explained. "I've got to say that would be the preference. But the way the game's going now with counter-attacking football and a different approach by teams away from home, we've got it and that's the way the draw came out. We're at home in the first leg and away in the second leg, we just have to take it."

Moyes also had a message for those who queried his limited experience of top-level European football when he took on the job of replacing Sir Alex Ferguson.

"Nearly everyone asked me at the start of the season about my inexperience in the Champions League," he recalled. "I was amazed that none of you asked me about that the other night there, it must have slipped your minds.

"Look, I said before, I'd watched enough Champions League football and hopefully watched so much that I know a bit about it. But I got a lot of help from people around me, I said I would do that. Thankfully, I've got myself to the quarter-final but the aim now is to get to the semi-final."
