De Gea Can Be World's Best

Juan Mata and Javier Hernandez are in no doubt that Manchester United team-mate David De Gea is on course to become the best goalkeeper in the world.

The United no.1 scooped both the Sir Matt Busby and Player's Player of the Year awards at Thursday night's Old Trafford ceremony with both Mata and Hernandez voting for their fellow Spanish speaker.

"I think he was a very consistent player," explained Mata on MUTV. "He saved a lot of points for us and fully deserved it this year. I know it's only been a few months since I came but it's not just me. All the players voted for him and he deserved it.

"He's a top, top goalkeeper who I think will give us a lot of good games and some trophies in the coming years. He's a very, very good goalkeeper who can make the difference and win games. That is what I think a goalkeeper needs to do. For me, he's already one of the best goalkeepers in the world and, with his age and being at this club, I think he can be the best."

Chicharito echoed those sentiments by explaining how De Gea has overcome flak in the press during his early days at United.

"He's been brilliant this season," enthused the Mexican. "David's form is one of the highlights of this year. He's improving. When he came here, he received a lot of criticism and had bad moments but now he's proved himself to all the people that never trusted him. For me, he can be one of the best goalkeepers in the world, not only the Premier League. He is proving that game-by-game and we want him to keep that level for the next year, five years and 10 years. He's going to be a very important player for this club."
