De Gea Looking Forward To Real Clash
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea is excited about the prospect of facing Spanish side Real Madrid during Tour 2014, presented by Aon.
United face Real in Ann Arbor, in the International Champions Cup - a competition which will also pit the Reds against AS Roma (in Denver) and Inter Milan (in Washington DC). For De Gea, the sold-out meeting with the La Liga outfit holds special significance, as he came through the ranks at their fierce local rivals, Atletico Madrid.
"It's a Spanish team, and I will enjoy playing against them," the goalkeeper told ManUtd.com. "It will be special for me. With it being a friendly, there is not as much pressure, but of course we will try to win the match.
"Although you know it's just pre-season, it always helps to compete against strong sides. Big teams are involved in the tournament and we will need to play well. Hopefully we can win it."
In addition to the trio of European giants, the Reds will also take on LA Galaxy in the Chevrolet Cup, and De Gea feels the MLS club, who are in the middle of their season, will provide a strong challenge. "It's always good to play against teams from outside Europe. I am sure it will be a tough game and it will help us gain pace and fitness."
Aside from taking part in some mouthwatering pre-season matches, the United no.1 is excited to be linking up with the rest of the squad once more ahead of the new campaign. "After a long break you want to see your team-mates and start the new season," he said. "You are looking forward to the training, which is tough, but enjoyable."
