Goalkeepers Embrace New Kit

David De Gea & Anders Lindegaard are both acutely aware of what it means to wear the Manchester United shirt and neither goalkeeper can wait to pull on their new kits.

The two glovesmen are preparing for this summer’s Tour 2014 presented by Aon and fixtures with LA Galaxy, Roma, Inter Milan and Real Madrid. Both men will don their new jerseys in these matches, which is always something to look forward to.

“It is very comfortable and is a very nice shirt,” explains De Gea. “Simply wearing the United shirt with this crest on the chest means a great deal to me. I feel very proud in every match and I am looking forward to wearing it in a match for the first time.”

As for Lindegaard, the 30-year-old Danish stopper who arrived at Old Trafford in January 2011, he is also suitably impressed with his new kit and remains well-versed in the responsibility that it brings.

“I like it a lot,” Anders says. “They’re always exciting times when United bring out a new kit, it’s a legendary football shirt and you never quite know how it’s going to look. I really like this one. It appears we’ve gone back to basics with it. It’s simple and very nice.

“It obviously means a lot to wear the United shirt. I’ve seen players wear it since I was a small kid and being allowed to wear it yourself makes you feel very proud. I will always be very proud to wear the United kit.”

As a boyhood United fan, Lindegaard has followed the Reds throughout his entire life and like every young football supporter, he collected a number of kits in his youth. But which was the first one he owned?

“My first-ever kit was probably my old club’s shirt, back where I’m from in Odense," he recalls. "In terms of a foreign shirt it would definitely be a United shirt. I have quite a selection of those back home.

“I’m not sure I could pick a favourite but the one that sticks out for me is the one that had the Old Trafford imprint on it (94/96 home). I remember that most clearly. I also remember Peter Schmeichel’s shirt with the green sleeves, which was probably my favourite.”
