Injured Carrick Faces 10 Weeks Out

Manchester United have suffered a blow ahead of the new season with the news Michael Carrick faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines due to injury.

The midfielder sustained an injury during training earlier this week and is now set for a lengthy spell out.

United’s new manager Louis Van Gaal revealed during his first press conference at Old Trafford the 32-year-old was injured and described the news as a “big blow”.

The Dutchman refused to elaborate on the injury or length of lay-off and said that United would issue a statement shortly.

“Michael Carrick was injured the day before and that's a blow for me because he's experienced,” said Van Gaal. “It's very important we have experienced players.”
