Boss: Result Changes Nothing

Louis van Gaal has explained he knows which positions he needs to target before the transfer window closes on 1 September.

The new Manchester United boss faced a number of questions about new signings again at the post-match press conference and was keen to focus on the reasons behind the defeat to Swansea City and the players within his squad. However, he did explain that the circumstances must be absolutely right if he pursues any interest in any fresh blood.

When asked if he feels there is a need to add new faces, he replied: "Yes, but that I have thought before this match. That is not a difference. In the United States, I thought the same. I know in what positions we need better players but you have to buy only when the player can fulfil the way of playing that I ask. We have to wait and see."

The manager also denied he has told some of his players that their futures may lie away from Old Trafford.

"No, because it's not up to me," he informed BT Sport. "It's also up to the players to decide.

"We have given the players a contract and I will tell them what I think and expect of them. But I'll never tell them that they should leave."
