Mata Wants To Maintain Momentum

Juan Mata insists Manchester United must build on the last two victories over West Ham United and Everton and pick up another win at West Bromwich Albion on Monday night.

The Reds have had a two-week break from domestic action due to international fixtures and have been working hard over the weekend on preparations for the trip to The Hawthorns.

Mata highlighted the importance of the players’ fighting qualities in the last two games and says United must maintain that spirit and winning momentum.

“The team showed great passion and character," he told MUTV and ManUtd.com. "It wasn’t easy to win both games, first with ten players [against West Ham] and second with Everton attacking and attacking, but we did it and got six points from the last two games which is good.

"Hopefully we will get three more points in the next game but it will be tough at West Brom. It’s always a difficult stadium to go to with a tough atmosphere but we always try to win.

“After the international break and two weeks without a game we want another three points after two wins in a row. We’ll try our best to come back to Manchester with all three.”

A meeting with Mata's former club Chelsea looms large for Louis van Gaal’s men a week from today (Sunday), but the Spaniard insists the focus is fully on overcoming the Baggies.

“We only have to think about this game,” he says. “The manager is only speaking about West Brom and that’s the same for us.”
