McNair Earns van Gaal's Faith
Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has been impressed with Paddy McNair in training after handing the 19-year-old a massive boost by retaining him in the line-up for Sunday's clash against Everton.
The Northern Ireland Under-21 international performed admirably during his debut in the win over West Ham United and has been rewarded with the faith of his manager in the continued absence of Phil Jones, Jonny Evans and Chris Smalling.
"He is modest and calm also," van Gaal informed MUTV. "Normally, when you are playing in the first team for the first time, you are quiet. That is the case with most players, so it's no big surprise. What is more important is he knows what he is doing and why he is doing it. He has trained with us for a full week for the first time and he is doing great. I'm very pleased with him."
Van Gaal admits he is relieved to be heading into another international break because the injury situation remains so serious.
"It's fantastic for us as we are hoping that a lot of players will come back fit which will make my selection for the matches easier," he explained.
