Ex-Manchester United Boss Sir Alex Ferguson Hailed By Bojan Djordic

Sir Alex Ferguson was the best manager any youngster could ever hope to play under, according to former Manchester United winger Bojan Djordic.

Djordic joined United as a 17-year-old from Brommapojkarna in 1999 and made just two senior appearances for the club before moving to Rangers six years later.

Now 32, Djordic is at Chennaiyin FC and has captained the side to second place in the inaugural Indian Super League.

“Alex Ferguson was the best manager I played under in terms of how he works with players from 16 years old right up to the top,” Djordic told Sky Sports.

“He would visit young players at the digs with his wife and, at training in the mornings, he would always ask you how you were.

“He could name your parents and your grandparents, that’s how involved he was, that’s how he created this family that was Man Utd at Carrington.

“U16s, U19s, reserves, right through to the first team - there was no difference between the first player and the last player. The 17th player on the payroll was just like the first one and that was amazing for me to see and to be a part of.”

Although Djordic’s appearances at Manchester United were limited, the attacker has fond memories of his spell at Old Trafford.

“I came to United ahead of the 1999/2000 season,” he said. “I was under contract for five years and my first two years were unbelievable.

“I made my debut for the club, I scored for the club and I won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award. I was captain of the reserve team playing with the likes of John O’Shea, Wes Brown, Danny Higginbotham and Danny Webber.

“I was happy to have been part of such a great club. My time at United taught me how to be part of a big club and a big family. I had a great time there.

“Of course people will say that I failed but how can you fail if you were part of a big club like Manchester United? Many people can’t even get a ticket at Old Trafford.”
