Reds Await FA Cup Fourth-round Fate
Manchester United have been allocated ball no.30 in the FA Cup fourth-round draw, which takes place on Monday night at 19:35 GMT.
Lawrie Sanchez, who scored the winner for Wimbledon against Liverpool in the 1988 final, and Kingstonian Women's Under-18s head coach Stef Loucaides will conduct the draw at AFC Wimbledon's Kingsmeadow Stadium. The games will be played on the weekend of 24 and 25 January.
The Reds have not won the competition since 2004 and, after a weekend of few shocks, are in the hat alongside the other top sides in the Barclays Premier League including Chelsea and Manchester City, the two teams above Louis van Gaal's men in the table.
After safely negotiating the clash at Yeovil Town on Sunday, meaning the club have not lost an away third-round encounter since a shock 2-0 reverse at Bournemouth as FA Cup holders in 1984, United will be keen for home advantage later this month.
Darren Fletcher is the only member of the current squad to lift the trophy with the Reds and he outlined the determination to get his hands on the famous silverware again in May. “We’re in the draw for the next round, and it’s been too long since Manchester United have won this competition,” the 30-year-old declared.
“We really want to win it this year and hopefully we’ll look back on our result here as one of the most important ones if we go far in this competition. It's a real priority, the FA Cup is a fantastic competition. There are a lot of players in there who are desperate to win it. Let’s try to go and win it this season. While we don’t have to worry about the Champions League, we can put a real focus into it and hopefully go a long way.”
