Blind: We Deserved More Than A Draw

Daley Blind feels Manchester United did enough at Upton Park to merit more than the point he salvaged by firing in an injury-time equaliser.

The Reds responded well to Cheikhou Kouyate giving West Ham United the lead soon after the restart and gained an increasingly firm grip on the game before Blind found the net in the 92nd minute.

Despite the pleasing feeling of sending the away end into raptures with his dramatic strike, the Dutchman believes the Hammers’ resolve should have been broken much earlier.

“I think we deserved more,” the midfielder told MUTV. “We created a lot of chances that we could score from, but we didn’t score. In the end, you could be happy with 1-1, but we aren’t. We deserved more from the game."

Blind's goal on Sunday was his second late equaliser for the Reds, following his 87th-minute effort at West Brom last October. When asked about his timely intervention, he admitted: "That was a nice moment for me. The ball found me, I was thinking to shoot and then everything went really fast.

“I think we had to score earlier in the game and not at the end. I think we could have done that. We had the chances, but not the finish."

Blind was buoyed by the battling nature United showed after falling behind, and by the constant backing from the travelling fans throughout the game.

“In the second half we started better and kept up the pressure directly after the break but then they scored an early goal,” the 24-year-old reflected.

“We showed a fighting spirit and the character we have and we tried to win the game in the end, but we have to do with the draw and one point. Of course, we wanted more.

“We kept on going and also the fans were amazing. They’re incredible with how they support for the whole 90 minutes, so credit for that. That keeps us going and we want that every game."

Having snatched a point from the West Ham clash, the Reds’ no.17 already has his sights set on Wednesday’s meeting with Burnley at Old Trafford.

“I like that there’s another game coming already because we can forget this one. We have to keep looking up and three points is important in the next game.”
