United Raring To Go In FA Cup Replay

Manchester United trio Daley Blind, Ander Herrera and Luke Shaw say the Reds are ready for the FA Cup replay against Cambridge and are on a mission to go all the way in the competition after some recent shock eliminations.

Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham and Southampton were all knocked out on home territory, while Liverpool have been taken to a replay, like United, by Bolton.

Louis van Gaal’s men still have work to do to ensure a spot in the fifth round of the competition to face Preston or Sheffield United, but the Reds are well aware that results elsewhere may enhance the overall chances of winning the famous trophy for the first time since 2004.

“I saw the other matches the day after ours and of course now the other teams are out hopefully there might be more chance for us to win the cup. It’s in our minds,” revealed Blind in an interview with MUTV.

“I think it is one of the best competitions I’ve ever played in,” beamed Herrera. “You look at the tournament and you see Chelsea losing at home against a League One team, Tottenham lost at home and Manchester City lost at home to Middlesbrough. It’s a very exciting competition. I love it.

“Juan [Mata] told me when he arrived it was his first trophy in England and we want to win it. I think we are one of the best teams left in this competition, but we have to show that and we also have to respect all the teams.”

Shaw concurred and insisted van Gaal’s men know concentration and hard work will be required against Cambridge on Tuesday night.

“You can’t go into any game thinking that it is going to be easy, especially in the FA Cup,” declared the defender. “We’ve seen down the years that lower-league teams can beat the bigger teams. We know that we need to be focused.

“It was disappointing not to win down there, not only for the players, but for everyone here. We’ve got a point to prove because I know how important the FA Cup is to this club. We haven’t won it for a while, so it would be nice to get a cup run going with a trophy at the end of it.”
