Five Key Stats From United's Victory At Palace

Using Opta data, here are five key statistics from United’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace…

Man of the Match: David De Gea made three saves, including one stunning stop to deny Glenn Murray’s close-range effort when the score was 1-1. The Spaniard also caught the ball five times and finished with a 60 per-cent success rate from 40 passes made. He later won our Man-of-the-Match award with 65 per cent of votes cast on Twitter, the platform Peter Schmeichel used to post this message to his fellow goalkeeper: “Well done again today, if we get top four then it’s because of you.”

Quickest off the mark: The continually impressive Ashley Young clocked the fastest speed of any United player at 33.55 km/h. The in-form winger also completed 10 crosses in the match, which is double the next best tally from Antonio Valencia. He registered two assists and now has four to his name for the season, which is the same amount he claimed during his two previous campaigns.

Cross-country runner: Marouane Fellaini covered more distance than any other player with 11.32 km to his name. The match-winner also recorded the top average speed (6.89 km/h) for United and had a 100 per cent pass completion rate for the opening half hour.

Pass master: Radamel Falcao finished the match with the best pass completion rate of any United player with 92.3 per cent from 13 passes. Nine of those were executed in Crystal Palace’s half, one of which was the superbly disguised ball that led to Herrera’s excellent volley forcing a fine save from Julian Speroni.

Mata was spot on: Juan Mata became the third Red to hit double figures in the scoring charts this season with his first-half penalty. It was notably his first-ever penalty for the Reds and the no.8 has now scored two of his five career penalties.
