Macari Shocked By Memphis Depay

MUTV pundit Lou Macari has admitted he was taken aback after seeing new Manchester United signing Memphis Depay at close quarters for the first time on Tour 2015 promoted by Aon.

The recent recruit from PSV Eindhoven is expected to make his debut against Club America in the International Champions Cup clash over the weekend and is known to be a fitness fanatic in the gym. The 21-year-old is a striking figure in the flesh and looks capable of handling the rigours of the Premier League next term.

"Memphis really has shocked me," admitted Macari to MUTV. "He is built like a tank. I can't believe what I'm seeing. I thought he was a frail, little guy but he's massive and strong with huge legs!

"The new signings will have a massive impact as there is real competition for places," he continued. "I said watching certain games in the last two or three seasons that the bench was a bit weak but we're going to have the strongest bench of any team in the Barclays Premier League this season, especially with the midfield players."

Meanwhile, Reds legend Bryan Robson feels Louis van Gaal could look to add another striker to his ranks before the transfer window closes next month.

"I think we're not too bad defensively," said the former skipper. "Especially, when you're getting the protection from the midfield area now. I look at it and feel we need another top-class striker. I'll be delighted if we bought one world-class striker into the club now and then I think the balance of the squad is very good.

"You're going to see in the next few training sessions how the new signings slot in and where the manager wants to play them. I will take them time to understand what the manager wants but he'll put that point over and I'm sure they'll grasp it as they're all top-class players we have just brought in. They will definitely strengthen us and it will be interesting to see how the manager balances it up with the formation that he plays.

"We can't forget Ander Herrera as he is in the mix as well. He finished the season off really well and it's giving great competition in midfield. There's also the good thing with Marouane Fellaini that he showed in the last part of the season that he can go up front and help Wayne Rooney out up top so it's great to have that asset as well."
