Schneiderlin Targets Title With Manchester United
New Manchester United signing Morgan Schneiderlin is targeting the Premier League title as he prepares to make his debut for the 20-time English champions.
Schneiderlin spent seven years at Southampton, where he tasted life in League One before progressing to the Premier League in 2012.
The France midfielder signed a four-year deal at Old Trafford with the option of a further 12 months before flying out for the pre-season tour of North America this week.
He told Sky Sports News HQ: "I am ready. I have waited a long time. I could have left before but I feel this is the right moment for me. I feel physically in the best shape as possible.
"I hope I will settle in quickly and that we will win titles. That’s what the most important thing is, that is what the club deserves. if I look back and win titles, it will be the best thing ever. The aim for a club like Manchester United is to win everything.
"I am the happiest man in the world to join the biggest team in the world. Last year I had a good year with Southampton. I felt good, feel like I progressed and now I’m ready for Manchester United. When you look at the badge, the stadium, it’s the biggest club in the world."
Schneiderlin joined United on the same day as Bastian Schweinsteiger and cannot wait to get acquainted with the multiple trophy-winning Germany international.
He said: "Schweinsteiger is one of the best midfielders in the world and I am very happy to be playing with him. A team like Manchester United is already massive so when you sign for a team like this the level of expectation is massive.
"I’m going to come, train hard, feel physically ready and learn from the manager. He has brought me because he thinks I have quality, so I’m not going to change too much. I played at international level and everything has happened very quickly, but I am ready for it. I wouldn’t make that step if I wasn’t ready.
"I chatted to the manager before I joined the club. He expressed to me how he likes to work and how he likes to play. He is very demanding of his players but we need this to progress. His style, his trophies speak for himself. I will personally listen to him and see how I get better."
Schneiderlin, who began his career with Strasbourg in France, argues that his experience of the lower leagues in England is the perfect grounding for his continued development at the highest level.
He said: "It’s a long way. When I look back at it, it was the best thing possible. I had to toughen my play. I had to look myself in the mirror and look at where I needed to progress.
"You work even harder. I was lucky to have a manager who had a lot of confidence in me and helped me to progress. I’m grateful for that and today I feel ready to make that step."
Schneiderlin could make his Manchester United debut in the first match of the pre-season tour against Mexico's Club America in Seattle on Friday night.
