Blind Hails Team Display
Daley Blind helped Manchester United secure a second consecutive win and another clean sheet in Friday's 1-0 win over Aston Villa, and he says the Reds' winning start to 2015/16 is down to "a team performance".
Louis van Gaal's men made it two wins from two thanks to Adnan Januzaj's first-half strike, and although Blind was one of the standout performers at Villa Park, he reserved his praise for his team-mates.
Asked about the importance of an away win early in the season, the Dutchman told MUTV: “It was something we talked about, starting afresh for the away games, but it’s a good start. Last year, we gave some things away in the games, but now you’ve seen how strong we are at the end – we kept a clean sheet and fought for everything.
“I think again it was a real team performance, especially off the ball. We created some chances and we could have scored more, but we didn’t give anything away and won 1-0. Three points are the most important thing, so again I’m happy with the team.
“It’s not only the defence, it’s the whole team, but of course as defenders it’s good to have a clean sheet and it gives us a lot of confidence.”
Blind was also pleased for United's goalscorer, Januzaj, after he made an impact on his first start since February's clash with Burnley. And Blind believes we will soon see fellow Reds youngster Memphis among the goals too.
“I’m very happy for Adnan," added Daley. "He tries very hard in the training sessions and now we've seen how skilful he is with the goal, so I’m very pleased for him.
“I think it’s a matter of time for Memphis. You've seen how much quality he has and how strong he is. We can see some nice things from him. He’s just got to keep going, he tries very hard and the goals will come for sure.”
As for another of the club's summer recruits, Bastian Schweinsteiger, who again replaced Michael Carrick during the second half, Blind said: “If you can bring a player like him on for a change, he has a real impact on the team. He has real quality and we can all learn a lot from him while he’s here."
