Blind Reflects On 'Special' Goal Against Liverpool

Daley Blind admits his first-ever goal at Old Trafford in Manchester United’s 3-1 win over Liverpool on Saturday provided him with a special feeling and lots of emotion.

The Netherlands international and in-form centre-back opened the scoring just three minutes into the second half when he slotted home Juan Mata’s free-kick in front of the Stretford End.

The Dutchman later revealed the move was something the Reds had worked hard on at the Aon Training Complex: “It was really special for me to score my first goal at Old Trafford against Liverpool,” Blind told MUTV. “I was very happy with the goal and for the three points.

“We practised this goal, and this move, a lot. Sometimes it went in and sometimes not - normally I have to take a first touch but I struck it at once which was good. I think it was a good finish. It was an incredible feeling when I saw it go in. A lot of emotions came loose and I was very happy.”

The 25-year-old also made a crucial clearance off the line to deny Liverpool with the score at 1-0 and he credited returning goalkeeper David De Gea for his role in the second half incident: “It was an important moment,” Daley told us. “Just before the corner David told me something and that I needed to be there, and I was there so it was good. We laughed about it afterwards.”

Blind was also happy for Anthony Martial after the French deadline day signing scored on his United debut in match that is watched by millions of fans around the world: “I’m really happy for him. He’s a big talent and we all need to be happy that he’s in our team and that he created a goal like this.”

United travel to Holland to face PSV Eindhoven in the first UEFA Champions League group game on Tuesday and Blind admits he’s excited to be returning to his homeland: “Of course, but firstly I am going to enjoy the moment of this game then we work for the next game.

“But it’s nice to go back to Holland and face PSV and we have to be on our best in the Champions League and try and get three points over there.”
