De Gea Ready To Return Against Liverpool
David De Gea says he feels ready to return for Manchester United in Saturday's big game with Liverpool after signing his new contract at the club.
The Spain international thanked the supporters for their patience during a difficult summer as Real Madrid attempted to sign the Reds' no.1 and suggested United's fans are the best in the world.
"I feel really well," he told MUTV in an exclusive interview. "I would like to say 'thank you' to the fans for their support. They are always behind the team, behind all the club, and that’s amazing. I think we have one of the best sets of fans in the world.
"[There was] lots of speculation this summer but I kept doing my hard work. I'm relaxed and happy here and now have to look forward this season and we have to play well, win the games and hopefully we can win a trophy.
"It was a different summer, it’s true. But I kept my focus, kept calm and kept doing my hard work. I want to say 'thank you' to my team-mates as well, they’re fantastic team-mates, and I’m really happy to be with them again."
De Gea is feeling in the right condition to play, if selected by Louis van Gaal, even if the atmosphere for the match will be intense at the weekend.
"I've trained really hard and I played with my national team, of course, so I feel ready and 100 per cent fit," he declared. "It's a perfect moment to come back at Old Trafford with the fans against Liverpool. It’s a special game for us, for the fans, for the world. It’s a big game and, of course, we need to win. We need three points for the fans.
"It was a fantastic game with a fantastic atmosphere [in last year's fixture]. We won the game 3-0 at Old Trafford and it was a perfect day. Of course, it’s a new season with new players and we are going to try to win everything with the team.
"We are Manchester United – one of the biggest clubs in the world. We are going to try to win everything. We know it’s difficult but we are Manchester United. We have to try to win every game and every trophy."
