Sir Alex Extols The Virtues Of Listening

Our exclusive series of Sir Alex Ferguson audio clips from his new book Leading is continuing on the official Manchester United Facebook page.

The legendary manager read from his chapter on listening in the second part of our seven-part series, with more to follow at 09:00 BST each morning on Facebook until 10 September.

"Listening provides an understanding of who people really are and what makes them tick," said Sir Alex. "After a game against Leeds United in 1992, I was in the bath with the players, which was highly unusual for me.

"Listening to their analysis of the match, Steve Bruce and Gary Pallister were raving about Eric Cantona, the French striker Leeds had signed from Nimes. Steve Bruce was particularly complimentary about Cantona’s abilities.

"Somehow, those comments planted a seed, which soon afterwards led us to signing Eric from Leeds United. And we all know how that turned out! Listening, even just for a few moments, led to a decision that changed the landscape for Manchester United."

Leading will be released on 22 September and Sir Alex starts his theatre tour a day earlier in London. Find out more and pre-order special or standard editions of the book now from manutd.com/leading.
