Lingard Keen For More Game Time
Jesse Lingard is hoping Saturday's 45 minutes of action at Goodison Park will prove to be more than just a one-off appearance for the Manchester United midfielder this season.
The 22-year-old played the second half of United's 3-0 victory over Everton after replacing Juan Mata at half-time.
It was the Warrington-born player's first outing in a United shirt since the opening day of last season when he suffered a serious knee injury against Swansea - which was manager Louis van Gaal's first competitive fixture in charge of the Reds.
After recovering, he spent the final three months of the campaign with Championship club Derby and also played for England at the European U21 Championship.
And following the win on Merseyside, Lingard said: "I want to be doing this week-in, week-out, playing for Manchester United. I have got to be patient and wait for my time. But it's great that I got 45 minutes against Everton.
"For the first 10 minutes I was blowing a bit but I got my second wind and then got comfortable. It's great to be back and help the team in any way I can."
Lingard says van Gaal wants him to remain at Old Trafford, where he first joined the club as a seven-year-old.
He added: "The manager said he wanted me to stay, and that he sees me playing games this season and I think Saturday won't have done me any harm, hopefully. He trusts the youth, and we have to repay him by playing well."
