Boss Targets Champions League Qualification
Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal is pleased with his side’s Champions League progression so far this season, with the Reds only one win away from confirming a place in the knockout stages of the competition.
Speaking aheada of Wednesday's Group B encounter with PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford, the Dutchman stressed the significance of United's 1-1 draw in Moscow on matchday three and praised his players for securing maximum points from two home fixtures.
“You always have to win your home matches and that point in Moscow is very important for us,” the manager told reporters at the Aon Training Complex. “I said after that result that we are on schedule and I still think I am right about that,” he continued. “If we beat PSV, then we will have qualified."
Beating PSV will be no mean feat of course, with Phillip Cocu’s men flying high both domestically and in Europe. The Dutch champions beat United in September and they are quietly confident ahead of their first match at Old Trafford in over 15 years, which is why van Gaal is predicting a tough night.
“It is very important to win, but it is not easy because every game you have to play you cannot say we will beat them,” the manager said. “PSV also beat Wolfsburg and I think that they are a very good team. They also beat Manchester United of course.”
