Carrick Set For Scan After Injuring Ankle In Spain

Michael Carrick left the Jose Rico Perez Stadium on crutches after injuring his ankle during England's defeat to Spain.

The Manchester United midfielder was stretchered off during the second half as goals from Mario Gaspar and Santi Cazorla gave the home side a 2-0 win in Alicante.

Carrick was later pictured with his right leg in a protective boot and the 34-year-old will have a scan on Saturday to determine whether he has damaged ankle ligaments.

"Michael Carrick doesn't look good," said manager Roy Hodgson.

"He's got a severely twisted ankle which normally means ligament damage. We won't know that of course until he's had an X-ray or a scan tomorrow, but it doesn't look good."

Hodgson recalled Carrick after the 2014 World Cup, but the midfielder has only started two games due to injury.
