Herrera Content With Louis van Gaal’s Approach

Ander Herrera insists he has a good relationship with Louis van Gaal and is happy with the Manchester United manager’s hard-line approach.

The Spanish midfielder, who joined United from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2014, has endured a tough second season at Old Trafford, making just five Premier League appearances so far.

Herrera featured from the substitutes' bench in United's past two matches against West Bromwich Albion and CSKA Moscow, but he was just afforded a combined nine minutes on the pitch to stake his claim for a regular starting berth.

Van Gaal has recently come in for criticism for the style of play he has implemented since arriving at Old Trafford, with former United midfielder Paul Scholes among those to voice his disapproval.

Herrera, however, feels United are in good hands and says Van Gaal is the right man to lead the club forward.

"He's a very demanding person, very forward and very sincere, which I value a lot," Herrera told Catalunya Radio.

"To [the press], he might seem a bit tough, but I think he's a good guy and I think he wants what's best for the club.

"On a personal level, I have a very good relationship with him. I know he can look tough from outside the club, but from within, he's the right guy to help us improve.

Herrera also heaped praised on United goalkeeper and Spanish compatriot David de Gea.

The 25-year-old was expected to join Real Madrid on the final day of the European summer transfer window, but an administrative error saw the move fall through.

Following the breakdown of his move to the Santiago Bernabeu, De Gea signed a new four-year contract with the club in September and was reintegrated into the first-team having been left out the United squad during the opening month of the season.

He has since returned to his best form and has not conceded a goal in his last five matches, leading to high acclaim from Herrrea.

"He's a genius. Purely on talent, I've never seen someone like him and we are lucky to have him," Herrera added.

"The talent he has, very few have it in the world and David is one of them.

"It's a blessing to have him close, and hopefully it will be for a long time."
