Valencia Has Surgery On Foot Injury

Manchester United have confirmed Antonio Valencia has had an operation on his injured foot.

The Ecuador international was hurt during the Manchester derby and withdrawn in the 81st minute for Matteo Darmian as the match finished goalless. After missing the next four games, the right-back has required surgery on the problem, as manager Louis van Gaal suggested to MUTV on Friday.

Ashley Young filled the position in the home wins over CSKA Moscow and West Bromwich Albion but Darmian is back from his one-match ban in time for the trip to Watford on 21 November when the Barclays Premier League resumes after the international break.

Valencia has made 10 appearances this term, five as substitute, and no timescale has yet been placed on his return.

The 30-year-old tweeted the above picture with the caption: "Thank God, [I] came out well from the operation. Now [I] think about my recovery."
