Smalling Fit For Watford Clash
Chris Smalling has delivered a boost to Manchester United ahead of Saturday's visit to Watford in the Barclays Premier League.
The club's Player of the Month for October limped off in the closing stages of England's defeat to Spain and was an unused substitute for the subsequent international match with France, sparking suggestions he could be a doubt for United's game against the Hornets.
However, in an exclusive interview with MUTV, the in-form defender revealed he is hoping to extend his run of being involved in every Reds fixture so far this season - a timely piece of good news given Louis van Gaal's announcement that six of Smalling's team-mates will miss the Watford match.
"I’m fighting fit and I’m feeling good to go again," said Smalling. "It’s nice that this run keeps on going and, more importantly, that the performances keep going because you can play every game but you must make that impact. I’m looking forward to making another impact on Saturday."
England's midweek friendly against France was a poignant occasion following the terrible tragedies in Paris and Smalling was asked for his thoughts on an emotional night.
"I think it was quite tough for everyone but I think everyone came together and you could see that unity in both sets of fans and the players and the staff," he said. "Everyone came together and showed that message that we are strong together."
