Blind: Our Finishing Must Improve
Daley Blind believes Manchester United deserved to beat West Ham on Saturday, although the Dutchman admits his team-mates need to improve their finishing in front of goal.
The Reds controlled much of the game against the Hammers and registered 21 shots but were frustratingly held to a fifth goalless draw in nine games across all competitions.
The result was particularly disappointing due to the opportunity to leapfrog Manchester City in the Barclays Premier League table following the Blues’ 2-0 defeat to Stoke City in the early kick-off.
“We're disappointed of course,” Blind told MUTV after the final whistle on Saturday. “You need to finish. If you want to win, you need to finish. In the first half, they got some chances with set-pieces.
“We were dangerous as well in the first few minutes of the game. In the second half, I think we deserved the three points. We created the chances but I keep repeating myself - you need to finish.
“The fans are disappointed and we are as well with the result so we have to move on. Of course this was an opportunity to be at the top of the table - that's why we're all disappointed with this draw.”
When pressed further on the game, Blind struggled to evaluate why United did not score but was quick to say the atmosphere inside the squad remains strong. That is, of course, vitally important ahead of Tuesday’s crucial Champions League match against Wolfsburg in Germany.
"If you see this game you can count a lot of chances for us in the second half and I think we deserved the three points," he added. "I can say something about the spirit - everybody works really hard and everybody is working for each other. We don’t give away chances, we are well organised defensively.
“We need a little bit of luck maybe with the chances. We have to recover and get our minds clear and go on to the next game. It's a very important one.”
