Reds Duo Pick Up Injuries

Manchester United duo Morgan Schneiderlin and Paddy McNair will be assessed after both were forced off through injury during Saturday’s goalless draw with West Ham United.

Schneiderlin was replaced by Michael Carrick just before half-time at Old Trafford after picking up a hip problem, while McNair came off at the interval with an ankle injury, as Guillermo Varela came on to make his first-team debut.

The duo face a race to be fit for Tuesday’s crunch Champions League clash with Wolfsburg, a game captain Wayne Rooney is already likely to miss. Marcos Rojo, Ander Herrera, Phil Jones and long-term absentees Luke Shaw and Antonio Valencia were all sidelined for the draw against the Hammers.

Van Gaal told MUTV: “Paddy McNair has an ankle problem and Schneiderlin is a little bit stiff in the hip, so we have to wait and see as always on that.

“I hope they can play on Tuesday but it is a very short [turnaround] so it is a very big question mark.”
