Schneiderlin: More To Come From Me
Morgan Schneiderlin has declared there is "more to come" from him at Manchester United as he now feels settled into life at Old Trafford.
In an exclusive interview with Saturday's United Review, the official matchday programme, the France international discusses his form since signing from Southampton in the summer and what the Reds need to do to break down some stubborn defences in the Barclays Premier League.
After being an unused substitute at Leicester City last time out, the 26-year-old central midfielder is determined to impose himself and continue showing his true colours in the red shirt.
"I had a period of integration into a new side and a new environment, so it was only a matter of time to adapt," Schneiderlin explains in Saturday's programme interview. "Now I’ve done that, I feel good.
"Even if I am a little hard on myself, I know I can do better, so there is more to come from me. It happens to every player who signs for a big club, sometimes you need time to adapt and it was the same for me. I will be better and keep improving as the weeks go on."
A popular figure among United supporters, despite performing a role that can be under-appreciated at times, Schneiderlin is asked if he feels the backing of the fans. "For me, it's nice to hear this," he admits. "I want to reward them with my performances.
"All I can say is they can expect more from me in the next weeks and months. I'm hoping I will show it's my job to get the ball and pass it around, make tackles and have a high-energy playing style. So it's good for me to hear this about the fans. At Manchester United, we have to play well every week. I have to play well in every game and I know that."
With regards to the quest to hit the net more often, starting with the visit of West Ham United this weekend, Schneiderlin accepts it is something the players are all determined to put right.
"Every team we come up against is putting 10 people behind the ball and defending for their lives," he adds. "Sometimes, it's difficult to create and find space but, of course, we should create more chances and do more.
"I know there is criticism but we let people do their talking. Our job is to deliver by winning games. I've seen teams win the Premier League with good, solid defences and not conceding goals. Football is like that sometimes. But, of course, we need to work on our formation to try to score goals and win games."
