Rojo Undergoes Successful Surgery On Injured Shoulder

Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo has undergone successful surgery on his injured shoulder.

The left-footed Argentina international, who signed from Sporting Lisbon for £16m in 2014, dislocated his left shoulder during training last week.

Manager Louis van Gaal had initially hoped Rojo would not need an operation but admitted that the decision on whether surgery would be necessary was "a question for the doctor and for Marcos".

The Manchester United boss also confirmed the injury was "more or less the same thing that happened last season [when Rojo dislocated his shoulder in a game against Manchester City], meaning he is out for more weeks".

And on Wednesday, Rojo said on Instagram: "My operation was a success. Thank you to my beautiful wife, always with me. Thank you everyone for your messages of love and support."

Van Gaal is likely to reveal for how long he will be without Rojo at his press conference on Friday.

The Dutchman was without Rojo, Wayne Rooney (ankle), Morgan Schneiderlin (hip), Ander Herrera (hamstring), Phil Jones (ankle), Luke Shaw (broken leg) and Antonio Valencia (foot) for Tuesday's defeat at Wolfsburg.

Matteo Darmian also pulled his hamstring in Germany and fellow defender Chris Smalling suffered a groin strain. Both are likely to miss Saturday's match at Bournemouth.
