Lingard Keen To Make Another Impact

Jesse Lingard hopes he can play an important role in helping Manchester United to two more important wins this week after he and fellow attacker Memphis Depay came off the bench to make a positive impact in the FA Cup victory over Sheffield United.

The Reds face two away trips in six days, at Newcastle United on Tuesday and Liverpool on Sunday, with Lingard insisting the players are determined to build on consecutive victories over Swansea City and the Blades in the last week.

The 23-year-old was a 60th-minute substitute in Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie alongside Memphis, who won the crucial late penalty which led to Wayne Rooney’s winner. And Lingard, who was making his first appearance since mid-December following a hamstring problem, is keen to make a further impression in the next couple of matches.

"I felt good," he told MUTV. "To get game-time is always important for me and I feel that myself and Memphis had an impact on the game, which is good and that has stood us in a good stead for the Newcastle match.

"We’ve got quite a few wingers in the team and it’s always good to switch it up now and then. With the variety of the players in the squad, we can do that and the manager has options for every game.

"We must now build on the last two victories. Three wins in a row is what we need and it could hopefully kick-start our campaign and get us on a good run to earn many more."
