Schmeichel: Manchester United Not Good Enough To Win Title
Peter Schmeichel does not think his former side Manchester United are good enough to win the Premier League this season.
United are seven points behind Arsenal and Leicester following their 1-0 victory at Liverpool on Super Sunday.
Manager Louis van Gaal said afterwards that he believes United can make up the ground with 16 games of the season remaining.
However, Schmeichel told Sky Sports: "I don't think they can win the title. I don't think the team is good enough and they don't enjoy playing the way they do. It was three lucky points today.
"De Gea played exceptionally well and was key in keeping them in the game, and when you have a world-class player like Rooney, something can happen, and it did. That's two positives from the game."
In contrast to their midweek 3-3 draw with Newcastle, United struggled to create chances at Anfield, managing just one shot on target.
However, they emerged with the win thanks to a man-of-the-match display from David de Gea and Wayne Rooney's 78th-minute goal.
"Van Gaal is very keen on telling us that they have done what they have trained, so praising himself," said Schmeichel. "But if that's the style of play that Man Utd has to play, then I don't think they can win the league because you have to be really lucky every game."
