Pereira Hoping For A United Hat-trick
Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira was delighted to play a part in Monday's victory over Shrewsbury Town, but insists the players must now focus on upcoming games.
The Brazil Under-20 international came on for the last 25 minutes as Louis van Gaal's side comfortably progressed to the last eight of the Emirates FA Cup, with goals from Chris Smalling, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard securing a routine 3-0 win.
United face two tough home fixtures against FC Midtjylland and Arsenal to complete a busy month, and Pereira acknowledges there is no time yet to contemplate the Emirates FA Cup quarter-final at home to West Ham - the Reds' reward for beating Shrewsbury.
"I’m really happy that we’re through to the next round, it was a good team performance and we scored some good goals, so it was a good result for us," Pereira told ManUtd.com.
"It’s a big result for our confidence, as well. After going to Midtjylland and losing there last week, this will help to pick the team up. We needed a big performance and that’s what we gave on Monday night.
"Of course, it’s great for us that we're one game from Wembley [in the FA Cup semi-finals]. Hopefully we can go far in this competition and eventually win it. Winning a trophy would not only be important for me, but also for the team, the fans and everyone at the club.
"I think we have to stay calm though as it’s still a big week with games against Midtjylland and Arsenal. We have to make sure we play well again in the next game. We have to focus against Midtjylland. It’s a really important week for us, and hopefully we can make it three wins from three games by Sunday."
