Fellaini: We Must Finish Season Strongly
Marouane Fellaini insists Manchester United have the quality and determination to finish the season strongly in the Barclays Premier League and Emirates FA Cup.
The midfielder's goal at West Ham United last week helped earn the Reds a place at Wembley this coming Saturday in the FA Cup semi-final against Everton, while the race for a top-four place is still on after the 1-0 win over Aston Villa last Saturday.
The Reds face another home game on Wednesday night, the rearranged league meeting with fellow cup semi-finalists Crystal Palace. And in an interview with the official matchday programme, United Review, Fellaini says ensuring the season ends on a high is United's ultimate aim.
"This season the league is crazy; every team can lose points so we have to fight until the end. To win a trophy is great, and we hope to do that, but to play in the Champions League next season is very important," he says.
"All the players know that and we want to finish strongly. It will be tough but we have the quality to compete against the other teams. We will do everything we can to finish in the top four."
Wednesday's league clash is one of three home games left to play for Louis van Gaal's men – Leicester City and Bournemouth are also due visits – with the other two remaining fixtures away at West Ham and Norwich City. Fellaini believes it's vital the Reds make home advantage count and build on the last two positive results.
"A lot of teams don’t like to play at Old Trafford; it’s a difficult place to come to and our supporters are always with us. We have to make that count and make sure we perform," he declared.
"[Palace] are a good team and they have a lot of quality in attack. We have to be ready for that and also play on the front foot because we’re at home. It’s a good test for us before the big game on Saturday."
