Shaw: Training Is Going Well
Luke Shaw has provided a positive update for Manchester United fans around the world by confirming his return to outdoor training with a physio is going "really well".
The 20-year-old left-back has been working hard on his rehabilitation since suffering a double fracture of the leg during the Champions League defeat at PSV Eindhoven back in September.
Following many months of hard graft in the gym and the swimming pool, Shaw stepped up his recovery by returning to the training pitch on Monday 4 April to work individually with a club physio. As Louis van Gaal explained later that week, the aim is to “adapt his muscles and legs” to the hard ground.
Juan Mata welcomed Shaw’s return to training and the manager spoke about his delight at a recent press conference, although the man himself had remained quiet on his own recovery.
That was until Monday night, when the England international used his personal Instagram account to post an image of himself alongside several Reds team-mates in Champions League action, with the caption: “Training is going really well outside. Can’t wait to be back on the pitch with the team.”
The prospect of Shaw returning to action this season has been the subject of speculation since the very night he sustained his injuries in Eindhoven, with van Gaal stating it would depend entirely on the success or failure of the defender’s rehabilitation.
But in a presumed bid to boost morale, the boss has also repeatedly suggested that Shaw could feature in the Emirates FA Cup final if United get there and that remains a distinct possibility ahead of this Saturday’s semi-final showdown with Everton at Wembley.
The FA Cup final is set for 21 May and there are five Barclays Premier League matches to play before then, against Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Norwich City, West Ham United and Bournemouth.
