Schweinsteiger Injury Update
Bastian Schweinsteiger's injury has been described as a "big blow" by Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal.
The midfielder sustained knee damage while on international duty with Germany ahead of last week's friendly against England in Berlin.
With eight Barclays Premier League matches remaining, there is concern that the 31-year-old will struggle to reappear this term but the boss provided no timeframe on his recovery, even if he admitted it might be difficult for him to play at Euro 2016 in France.
"Schweinsteiger was injured already before the matches," van Gaal told MUTV on Friday "I think it was on the second day of training. That's a big blow for us and also for the national team.
"You can never say anything about that [missing the rest of the season] because he's started his rehabilitation. You have to wait and see."
Elaborating on the situation during his press conference, van Gaal said: "Schweinsteiger is a tragic injury because the expectation is not so good for him in respect of of the European Championship [in the summer], but you never know!
"He has to work hard for that because he wants to play and the Germany national manager wants him to play, so I hope that he can reach that, but it shall be difficult."
