De Gea In Race For Golden Glove Award

The race for the Barclays Golden Glove will be decided on Sunday, with Manchester United’s David De Gea tied against three other Premier League goalkeepers on 15 clean sheets for the season.

The Spaniard increased his tally following Saturday’s important 1-0 win at Norwich City to draw level with Arsenal’s Petr Cech, Leicester City’s Kasper Schmeichel and Manchester City’s Joe Hart.

De Gea is in pole position to win the award as Louis van Gaal’s men still have two matches left to play - against West Ham and Bournemouth. His rivals all have one fixture remaining with Cech is set to face Aston Villa, Schmeichel travelling to Chelsea and Hart finishing against Swansea City on Sunday.

Of course, David's total could have been even higher had he featured in the first three Premier League matches of the season, when Sergio Romero deputised to impressive effect by keeping clean sheets against Tottenham Hotspur, Newcastle United and Aston Villa.

De Gea is yet to win the Golden Glove award during his Old Trafford career, despite being named in the PFA Team of the Year on three occasions. The last Reds goalkeeper to take home the prize was Edwin van der Sar, after he kept 21 clean sheets during the 2008/09 season.

Should Cech win the award, the Arsenal stopper will become the first goalkeeper to win it with two different clubs after his previous success with Chelsea. The trophy will be shared in the event of a tie.
